Day 6 of the ongoing India Online Poker Championship (IOPC) at TheSpartanPoker.com saw the conclusion of another seven events yesterday. Seven players claimed the titles, or shall we say six did, as 24-year old Nishant ‘FunkyouFTW1’ Sharma claimed victory in Event #25 and Event #27. As of a result of these two wins and a number of deep finishes, Sharma is now on top of the IOPC leaderboard with just one more day’s events left to go.
A former event management professional, Sharma turned to playing professional poker not too long ago. An excited Sharma said, ” Yesterday was a good day; it all started with a bang by shipping the Multi Entry tournament as well as well coming 8th also in same tournament as it was multi entry tournament. I also shipped one Double Chance tournament and came 3rd in the other one. Today is the last day and am going to grind well and hopefully at the end of the day I’m topping it! #lfgggg.”
Today is indeed the big day of the entire IOPC schedule as the 2017 IOPC Main Event will get underway at 10 pm later tonight. Sharma and indeed any of the players who are battling for leaderboards will be gunning for as many deep finishes/wins they can considering the leaderboard winner will get INR 5 Lakhs of online sponsorship from The Spartan Poker.

IOPC #25 INR 330 (50K GTD) (Multi Entry)
As there were seven events scheduled for the day, the very first event began at 12 pm which ran for 3 hours straight. Shipping the very first event was Nishant FunkyouFTW1′ Sharma made an excellent start and also boosted him up for other events. Sharma took home INR 14,190 for this event and also came 8th in this same event for an additional INR 2,032, as this was the multi-entry event where players can enter up to four times via the same username. IOPC #22 winner Shubham ‘nucky888’ Pandey stood second in this event for INR 9,610 shares his experiences, “I was looking forward to win two IOPC events on consecutive dates but was disappointed in the end. It was a good run though. So I am happy to have come second in this event,” says the BITS Pilani engineer whose day job is coder in a start up.
‘FunkyouFTW1’ with 336,512 held the lead over ‘nucky888’ (200,988) in chips, in the very last hand at the level #29 with blinds 4,000/8,000 and ante 800, both of them shoved on the flop, The board of 7h 9h Kh Jc 6c, gave a pair of, Kings to ‘FunkyouFTW1’ who had Qd Kc and pair of Nines to ‘nucky888’ who had 5s 9s. The event saw 215 players which made up the prizepool of INR 64,500. The top 27 finishers were paid out.
IOPC#26 INR550 (100K GTD) (RE)
The second event of the day saw 281 entries (unique entries:175; rebuys: 106) generating a prizepool of INR 140,500 distributed to top 27 players with min cash INR1,405. ‘mothertrucker‘ shipped this event for INR 32,315 and ‘JOYEUSE‘ took the second place for INR 21,707. ‘mothertrucker’ who is known as ‘truck’ in the circuit says, “This win is another one for all the haters.”
When the play reached Level #29 with blinds 4,000/8,000 and ante 800, the flop saw both the players shoving leading to a showdown with the board showing Ts 6c 7d Qs 5d. A pair of, Sevens to ‘ JOYEUSE’ who had 7h 2h but this didn’t helped ‘JOYEUSE,’ as ‘mothertrucker’ had 9s 9h which made him win the event.
IOPC#27 INR990 Double Chance Warm-Up (100K GTD) (FO)
This event was the intermediate version of Double Chance Mini which had a smaller buyin and took place on Jan 26. This first of two Double Chance Warm-Up events saw 145 entries created a prizepool of INR 1,30,500. Top 21 players took a share with min cash paid INR 1,631. Nishant ‘FunyouFTW1’ Sharma shipped second event of the day for INR 31,320. 33-year old ‘spady’, an MBA and E-commerce professional from Delhi, said, “It was a fantastic experience playing on The Spartan Poker. They have some amazing value tourneys and IOPC is special in every way with big GTDs and leaderboard prizes. I am really looking forward to the Main Event tonight (I already have a seat through a satellite).”
With blinds 7,000-14,000-1,400, ‘FunkyouFTW1’ holding 2h Kd and ‘spady’ with Tc 5d, the hand saw a pre-flop all-in where ‘spady’ raises and goes all-in and ‘FunkyouFTW1’ calls the bet. The board of 9h 3c 9s Ac 9d gave three of a kind, nines to both the players, as ‘spady’ had Tc 5d and ‘FunkyouFTW1’ had 2h Kd, ‘FunkyouFTW1’ wins this event with his King kicker.
IOPC#28 INR990 Double Chance Warm-Up (100K GTD) (FO)
Starting simultaneously as the previous tournament, 134 players got together and created a prizepool of INR120,600 which was distributed to top 18 players with min cash paid INR1930. Even in this event ‘FunkyouFTW1’ made an impressive finish at third place for INR 13,266. Speaking about the winner of this event, it was ‘yashdonk’ who took down the event for INR 31,054 and ‘hemant_85’ stood second for INR 20,562.
The last hand, at the level #30 with blinds 4,500/9,000 and ante 900, saw a pre-flop shove had hemant_85’s 4d 4c going up against yashdonk’s holdings Qh Jh. The board Qc 3s 8c 2s 9h gave pair of Queens to ‘yashdonk’ and also first place.
IOPC#29 INR1100 (200K GTD) (RE)
24-year old Saami ‘DarthFedor’ Shahbazker who stood second in the SuperStack went one better on the following day by shipping this event and made a solid entry onto the leadeboard. ‘DarthFedor’ took INR6 2,330 for his first place finish in this tournament, and ‘BigBlufferAY‘ took INR41,869 for second place finish in this tournament. The event saw 271 entries (unique entries: 170; rebuys: 101) which made up the prizepool of INR271000. Top 24 players took the share of prizepool with min payout of INR2710.
At the level #35 with blinds 10,000/20,000 and ante 2,000, the last hand happened with ‘DarthFedor’ holding As 7s and ‘BigBlufferAY’ had 9s Js, the board 4c 5d 8d 5h 3s didn’t help the latter. It gave two pairs to ‘DarthFedor’ and as a result the title. Shipping this event, Shahbazker shared, “As always another action packed event, we started off well and continued with confidence playing aggressive throughout. But as we reached the final table we took our time and picked the right spots to gain the chip lead in the final 3 and then eventually to seal the deal in this one. Thank you The Spartan Poker for this amazing series and looking forward to the Main Event tonight.”
IOPC#30 INR5500 (600K GTD) (1RE)
The last event of the day saw 118 entries surpass the guarantee making for a juicy prizepool of INR 7,50,000 of which a share went to to the top 15 finishers in the event. ‘star.pkr95‘ shipped this event for INR 2,10,000 and as a matter of some coincidence it was former Star Poker pro Kartik ‘TheInternetKid’ Ved who stood second in this event for INR 1,36,875. Ved enjoyed his run in the event saying, “TheSpartanPoker.com provides the best platform and caters to every player with different buy-in ranges. The final hand saw raises and re-rasises till river, at the level #32 with blinds 6,000/12,000 and ante 1,200. ‘TheInternetKid’ with 395,283 (3d 8d) had just about half the stack of star.pkr95′ (729,717) holding 9s 6h. The flop of 7s Jd 3c has bet of 12,000 by ‘star.pkr95’ which is flatted by his opponent. The turn 8c saw ‘star.pkr95’ betting 25,200 to which ‘TheInternetKid’ raises 83,800 and this time ‘star.pkr95’ flatcalls. 5h on the river had ‘TheInternetKid’ going all-in and ‘star.pkr95’ makes a quick call with his straight, Five to Nine and claims the pot and the title of this final event of Day 6.
As you read this post, the final day of IOPC action is well underway and Nishant ‘FunkyouFTW1’ Sharma is currently holding steady on the top.
