The first ever IPC trophy awarded in Sri Lanka will stay at home as Ranga Perara from Colombo emerges victorious in the 5k Freezeout event at IPC Colombo defeating a field of 41 players.
The inaugural edition of the India Poker Championship’s Colombo edition here at Bally’s Casino was the first of the side events played. The previous day saw about 30 players come together to play in the 3k Mega Satellite into the Saturday’s Main Event. The final six players that remained won seats, with 4 players getting seats into the Main Event and the rest into the 5k and 10k events.
But Thursday night belonged Ranga Perara who gamely grinded his way to victory in what he says is his first ever live poker tournament. This IT consultant (and management accountant) who also holds a Masters in Technology, is primarily an online player having spent the last couple of years mastering the game on PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker.
In fact the thought of playing his first live tournament had Perara a bit nervous, so much so that he admitted to Gutshot that he made a few basic errors while calling out his actions on the felt. But it all came together nicely eventually for the 36 year old Colombo native who in fact also won himself a Main Event seat courtesy Wednesday night’s Mega Satellite.
Many congratulations to Ranga on his victory and that’s it from the team here at Gutshot. See you tomorrow for the wrap up for the 10k Freezeout.
