Asghar Rana wins the INR 10,000 Freezeout event at IPC Colombo. And that simple statement is what the record books will retain but only Rana knows what a a long and hard fought battle he was involved in to get there. In the end he managed to attain the fairytale ending that a player can only dream of when they begin the final table being the shortest stack.
The evening began a little later than usual with a delay of about 30 minutes and towards the end of the fourth level players were a bit more excited as the prospect of an overlay seemed imminent. And so it was when the board showed 30 players, ten lesser than the guaranteed 40, which meant that there were fewer players to do battle with in order to make it to the money and then the title.
The money bubble burst just past 10pm at night and it was a couple of hours later that Asghar Rana would triumph over Abhishek Garg in headsup to take home the win. Garg has had a good couple of days now having won a Main Event seat in the Mega Satellite from Wednesday followed by a free ride courtesy his 5k tournament won on Adda52, a popular Indian online portal where players could win tournament tickets and Main Event packages to IPC Colombo. Also giving them company in third place was Mahek Vyas, an online qualifier from the India Online Poker Championship series on PokerStars.
