Top five contenders for the EPL 2020 trophy

The English Premier League (EPL) began on 12 September, as players have been preparing to battle for the trophy. This season is going to be much like the post pandemic matches as fans won’t be allowed into the stadium. The bio-secure bubble when the Premier League isn’t so secure any more, with many players testing positive for the novel coronavirus. But worries aside, football is back and we are excited!

The reigning champions, Liverpool is back after their dominant performance last season. The newly-promoted Fulham, West Brom, and Leeds will be fighting to earn the right to stay up another year in the EPL. With the transfer window still open, more players are likely to join the teams in the most watched football league in the world. Here are the top four contenders for the title.

Liverpool

Managed by Jürgen Klopp, they destroyed the competition last season by winning with a massive margin. This year Klopp looks forward to retaining the title and has brought in some exciting players to his already talented squad. They are the number one contenders for the title and no reason to expect anything different this season. Klopp has boosted his team with Konstantinos Tsimikas, Thiago, Diogo Jota and Sheyi Ojo.

Chelsea

Frank Lampard’s side is something you need to watch out for this season. With some incredible transfer despite the pandemic situation, they have splashed a lot of cash in purchasing some good quality players. The talented team will welcome the likes of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech, Edouard Mendy, Maland Saar and Thiago Silva. Last season they failed to qualify for the UEFA champions league and no doubt they are ready to attack for the crown right from the start of the season.

Manchester City

Pep Guardiola’s squad has been contenders for the title and even won a few in the 3-4 years. Even though they have been qualified consecutively in the past 5 years they have seen major struggles in reaching the finals in the champions league. They are still as lethal as ever with major signing to boost the squad, they are looking forward to closing the gap and claiming the title once more. Nathan Ake, Ferran Torres, Pablo Moreno, Yan Couto and Issa Kabore have joined the squad.

Tottenham

The chosen one Jose Mourinho joined an explosive team with the likes of Steven Bergwjin, Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and the prodigal professional Gareth Bale is back. They were able to add to the midfield depth with holding midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, a key position in the Mourinho tactical style. It will be a very interesting season seeing the fight for 4th place that will hinge on how well Tottenham can stay.

Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did not have the start he wanted or how bad the transfer window is to him this summer. Last year after bringing in the portuguese talent Bruno Fernandes. The solid link created by Paul Pogba and Fernandes was crucial to their third place finish. United has struggled in the transfer and have acquired only Donny van de Beek. This young talent will definitely bring some dept to the squad. But they are still lacking in a few other important roles in the squad. The transfer window closes on 5 October, we can be only hopeful that they bring in players in time if they want to challenge the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and the newly- built squad Chelsea.
