A couple of days ago, Hyderabad police raided a gambling den in an MLA quarter and apprehended eight individuals engaging in an illegal activity. The police on spot seized INR 1.12 Lakh along with other materials. In spite of the lockdown due to coronavirus, daily strict announcements, a few individuals are breaking the rules to participate in gambling activities.
Another story was heard on 23 June, Tuesday when Thane police led by Deputy SP Shashikant Bhosale in the Buderwadi area of Bhayandar East where cops raided a gambling den and a total of 4 individuals were detained. The illegal activity was carried out on under the jurisdiction of Navghar Police Station. Failing to take a stern action the case prompted the Deputy SP to form a special team comprising of Police Sub Inspector Suraj Shinde, personnel Machindra Pandit and Kuyeskar to bust the gambling den running from an eatery in Bhayandar area in Mumbai.
The arrested individuals belonged to the age group between 30 to 56 that included Chandrakant Ratanlal Panchal, Sudip Nikhil Dutta, Manmohan Rajendra Tiwari and Pappu Bakelal Sondkar who were caught red handed while placing and accepting bets. Among these 4 individuals, cops arrested 2 who were matka operators and seized certain gambling materials and cash from the spot.
The police successfully managed to conduct the raid and those guilty were arrested under the relevant sections of the IPC, Disaster Management Act, Bombay Prevention of Gambling Act and Epidemic Act has been registered against the accused at the Navghar police station. However, further investigation is underway. The police force remain vigilant of the ongoing activities around them. Some regions in India have also started imposing fines upon people violating the rules and norms.
