Apple puts a 17+ restriction on gambling apps

 

Apple has applied a 17+ age restriction to all social gambling apps on their App Store across nations and regions. The Tech giant Apple made sure that gaming apps offering any sort of betting will be restricted to usage for individuals under the age of 17 years.

Apple sent an update on its developer microsite saying that the changes were executed on August 20 globally. It reported that those apps carrying any kind of gambling environment will need to introduce a 17+ rating. Apple described these gambling apps as ‘fake gaming apps’.

All the Apple App Stores must obey these rules. The ban has been targeted towards casino apps that include Zynga Poker. In short, the Apple credit card cannot be used for any gambling services or purchases on the app store.

The company was requested recently by several state administrations to remove gambling applications. China announced the move in April 2018, when 4000 apps were labelled with the keyword ‘gambling’.

This step will make sure that children are surfing the internet quite safely. The company forbid the use of HTML5 casino games from appearing on App Store. The sole purpose is to filter out the underage gamblers using the applications to earn money. The company’s quick action and regulations will be enforced on September 3, 2019.

Adding on, the Netherlands and Belgium have already removed loot boxes. Grand Theft Auto, a video game that lately became popular, introduced real-money casino that witnessed several underage players. According to some sources, 45% of children below 16 years were actively participating in sports gambling content on twitter.
