One of the dazzling properties in Las Vegas Strip, the Bellagio Hotel and Casino was witness to a robbery, but that didn’t quite go as planned. On Friday last week, an armed man entered a bustling Bellagio demanded money from a caged poker area.
He then fled the scene quickly out of the north entrance and attempted to carjack someone at the valet. However, when four uniformed police officers attempted to stop him, the robber fired at least one shot in the direction of the officers. One of the officers was struck in the chest.
Kevin McMahill, an undersheriff at the Las Vegas Police Department told to the press, “The bullet hit the cell phone in his pocket and then bounced off into his vest. He was really lucky.” He was treated and then later released, the police stated about the injured officer.
A second officer, watching his mate wounded, returned fire which hit the suspect’s chest and made him unconscious on the spot. The alleged robber succumbed to his injuries a few hours later. Luckily, Bellagio was filled with police officers on Friday who were at the scene concerning a missing report of a 12-year old girl.
Police traced the child to the Bellagio and were able to arrest the man who nabbed her. As officers were studying the casino surveillance footage, they saw that the robbery was happening live on cameras. They immediately put out the call on their radios the shootout followed.
In November 2017, a similar robbery took place when a man was able to flee with money from a poker cage at Bellagio. The police are currently finding evidence to see whether it was the same man who died. The robber hasn’t been identified yet but investigators are scrutinizing the CCTV footage to check for any accomplices.
