Well, did you know that Pakistan ranks second to Ethiopia with a population of over 5 million donkeys?! In a bizarre incident, a donkey in Pakistan was arrested for participating in a gambling activity.
The recent incident coming out of Pakistan has surprised the world. A renowned journalist Naila Inayat Tweeted a video of the four-legged animal along with eight other suspects were detained over gambling charges. This unusual incident was reported from the outskirts of Rahim Yar Khan city in the Punjab province of Pakistan.

The video Tweeted by the journalist was captioned, “Donkey arrested for participating in a gambling racing in Rahim Yar Khan. Eight humans also rounded up, Rs 120,000 recovered.” The video had gone viral and sparked varied comments across social media platforms and has been viewed more than 13K times!

According to the police, a case was filed against the accused and the animal’s name was also included. One of the police authority said that since the donkey’s name was mentioned in the FIR, it cannot be released. Apart from the donkey, the cops also recovered INR 1.21 Lakh, a cloth sheet spread on the ground on which the betting money was kept, and a stop watch. The men had wagered bets on a challenge that the donkey could run three furlongs (600 metres) in 40 seconds.
However, individuals involved in the case were given bail, the donkey spent four days tied in cattle yard near the police station. On Wednesday, the court eventually handed custody of the animal to Ghulam Mustafa, its owner, on a condition of safe-keeping until the case was concluded.
