Police raid two gambling dens in Bengaluru

The rate at which the number of COVID-19 cases are jumping up in India, the authorities and police are taking stern action to ensure the safety of each citizen. The industries and private sectors along with the non-essentials have been shut for over a month now and people are advised to stay within the premises of their home. While majority of the society are adhering by the rules, there’s always a group of people going against the order.

Bengaluru city has been making headlines for quite some time now due to the illegal activities. These organisers not only violating the law by organizing illegal activity but also violating the prohibitory orders of lockdown imposed over COVID-19. A few days ago, the Central Crime Bench (CCB) police raided two gambling dens, one is Varthur club and the other in Subramanyapura. They arrested a total of eight individuals in Varthur club who were indulged in playing the game of ‘Andar Bahar’ and seized INR 60,000 from the accused. These individuals were playing at the RSV Recreation Association Club located in Dommasandra, Mathanallur Cross which was in the limit of Varthur police station.

The second case took place on Tuesday evening, a building named Chikkallasandra in Subramanyapura was raided by the police captivating 12 people and taking away a hefty INR 1.67 Lakhs in cash from their possession.

A few weeks ago, the CCB police also conducted a raid in two areas, JC Nagar and Jeevan Bheema Nagar in Bengaluru arresting eight people from each place and seizing around INR 96K from both.

Last week, a mob of 12 men allegedly thrashed a policeman after their gambling racket was busted in the D Gudi area of Bengaluru-Mysuru road in Karnataka. When the police entered the den, the people involved in the activity ran away in panic and one gambler became so incensed over the raid that he decided to take out his frustration on a police officer. An officer involved in the incident explained, “The constable was manhandled. We are ascertaining the identity of the other accused and they will be arrested soon. We had received complaints about the gambling in the area since the lockdown.”
