The 11-day long poker festival got into the books yesterday. The 2019 World Poker Tour (WPT) Vietnam series was studded with a total of 15 events all lined-up to suit all kinds of players. The series wrapped up with the VND 50 million High Roller which saw a turnout of 212 entries (including 39 re-entries).

Day 1A and 1B of the event saw Indians Kalyan Chakravarthy, APT Vietnam Kickoff ME winner Abhinav Iyer, 2018 WPT India ME winner Nikunj Jhunjhunwala, Manoj Pentakota, Yasheel Doddanavar and Nitin Gupta qualify to Day 2 out of the total 54.

Jhunjhunwala topped the Indians by finishing 16th on Day 2 yesterday, earning VND 140,350,000 (~INR 4.17 Lakhs) as the cash prize. A total of 4 Indians earned a pay-check in the HR. Nitin Gupta was busted just before Jhunjhunwala at 17th for VND 140,350,000 (~INR 4.17 Lakhs). Iyer finished at 20th for VND 112,280,000 (~INR 3.35 Lakhs).

2019 WPT India HR winner Chakravarthy started the day as the overall chip leader but was eliminated at 27th place for VND 69,170,000 (~INR 2.06 Lakhs). Chakravarthy’s run unfortunately ended early in the day, though this isn’t the only cash he will take home from the series, having already finished 8th in SHR earlier.

The player to emerge victorious in the event was South Korea’s Jaewook Shin (pictured above) earning VND 9,356,620,000 (~INR 56.99 Lakhs) after a 3-way ICM chop between him, runner-up Wai Kiat Lee and Thai pro Phachara Wongwichit. Lee had finished runner-up in the SHR too. The final hand of the tournament saw Shin and Lee going all-in on the turn board of 10s 2c 8s 6d, both holding 10d 2d and Ad 9s respectively. Shin sealed his victory when the river of 6h was revealed.
