5 Reasons Why You’re Losing at Online Poker
Many poker players worldwide prefer the digital variant of their favourite game. Online sites keep adding thousands of sign-ups daily! Various players practice freerolls while others play cash games. However, there are times when you keep playing hands, developing strategy, yet keep losing. You love to play online poker but the game doesn’t seem to love you back!
What if we were to tell you the reason for your consecutive failures online are five simple reasons that you choose to ignore. Take a look at five reasons why you are losing at online poker in hopes that identifying these problems will help you turn your game around.
1. You are playing at multiple tables
Multi-tabling is the number one reason you’re losing online. It’s true that some people are really good at it, but it happens over time. Some players seem to cross their limits when multi-tabling and play too many tables at once.
Multitasking in poker can take a turn for the worst! But if you are eager to play at multiple tables, be our guests. However, you need to remember, when multi-tabling, the objective is to play as many tables as you comfortably and profitably can. Some players overlook the second part. They try to play as many as they can physically handle but don’t look at the long-term impact on their bankroll. If you are a multi-tabler and losing at online poker, go back to basics and start with two tables and work your way up from there.
2. You have not studied poker well enough
What!? No matter how absurd that sounds, it is true. Studying the game is a necessary part of improving your game in the modern age of poker. Those that fail to study the game are doomed to remain stuck at a certain level.
A good rule of thumb is to put in at least one hour of study. How you study is up to you but you should at least be regularly evaluating your game and looking for ways to improve.
3. You’re failing to identify and learn from your mistakes
We all have some mistakes that have cost us money. The mistakes are commonly called ‘Leaks’. Sometimes these leaks are missed opportunities and other times they are strategy deficiencies that lead to us losing more than we should.
We mentioned studying to improve your game above. Well, one part of studying involves identifying leaks in your game and then working to improve them. Some people have a hard time identifying leaks in their game or even to accept that they have a leak in their game. It is always a good idea to have another player evaluate your game.
4. You are failing to put in enough time at the tables
Some beginners are under the wrong idea that they can just play online poker for a few hours and become pros. What they don’t understand is, “Practice makes perfect!” You need to spend reasonable time at the tables in order to improve your game.
How are you going to learn how to build a computer unless you physically put one together? You can study all you want but until you put that study into practice, you just have knowledge. If you aren’t putting in as much time playing poker each week as you are studying, your game will not improve.
5. You’re distracted
Just because you are able to play online poker from home in your underwear doesn’t mean that you don’t need to focus on the game. Some players try to do too many things at once. You should give your undivided attention to the game when you’re playing it.
You gotta be focused to win at Poker. If you lose focus, you will lose everything! Anything that’s not allowing you to project your best form is a distraction. Watching TV or talking on the phone are all distractions. You need to get rid of such distractions. The two most common distraction is when you are tired or hungry. Both are simple matters to fix, but sometimes players are too stubborn to leave. With half your attention, you are prone to make more mistakes.
Beware of these 5 reasons the next time you play poker. You just might be able to change your game for good. Get latest updates on Online Poker right in your inbox, by subscribing to GutshotMagazine.com!
