Abhinav Iyer beats Sriharsha D to win Spartan Destiny

If you ask the Indian community who grabbed the spotlight so far in the year, the unanimous answer would be Abhinav Iyer. On virtual felts, Iyer has won a handful of major titles across leading platforms just in this year. In the live scene, he even outdid himself and earned his career best live score by shipping APT Kick-off Vietnam ME for ~INR 69 Lakhs.

Yesterday being a Wednesday, Spartan Poker hosted Destiny INR 20 Lakhs GTD, which is currently in its 9th iteration. Up till this edition the tournament gave away an INR 10 Lakhs Europe package to the winner of the 10-max SNG. The INR 10 Lakhs now will be distributed to the top 3 winners of the SNG.

Iyer aka ‘Schumi91’ shipped last night’s tournament at 3.36 am and became the 3rd entrant to Destiny 9.0 SNG scheduled on 9th June 2019. Iyer bested a field of 376 entries (including 80 re-entries and 139 re-buys) to secure his seat and beat his equal Sriharsha Doddapaneni aka ‘GTOsucks’ in heads-up. Iyer earned INR 5,30,000 as the first-place pay-out. Doddapaneni, Destiny 7.0 SNG package winner, must’ve put up a tough contest, wanting to bag another chance to play on the SNG on Spartan.

Both entered heads-up with Iyer having a little over 2:1 chip lead. Iyer had 6c 3c and Doddapaneni 4h 6h. On the flop of 7c 4d Ad itself Iyer had gutshot straight draw and Doddapaneni the middle-pair. Doddapaneni was still ahead till the turn of As. How Iyer made a three-to-seven straight on the river of 5c and shoved. Doddapaneni called just to see himself settle for INR 3,30,000 runner-up cash prize on Spartan.

Iyer, who is already an accomplished player, is in beast mode starting the year. Some of his recent achievements include ITM finish in 2019 WPT Vietnam High Roller last month. On virtual felts, he won PokerBaazi BSS SuperStack and IOPC Elite, both titles bagged in 2019.

Some regs to finish in the top 30 places (min-cash INR 14k) include Goonjan Mall (5th – INR 1,10,000), Jayjit Ray (14th – INR 24,400), Ashish Ahuja (18th – INR 18,000), Apratim Sharma (21st – INR 16,000), Bunty Batra (22nd), Arjanveer Chadha (25th), April SSS Leaderboard winner Amit Sur aka ‘Immortal killerr’ (28th), and others.
