Bhanu Prakash wins final SSS tournament on Spartan
It was high-octane stuff at the virtual felts of The Spartan Poker yesterday, as the prestigious Spartan Super Series (SSS) had its last day in play. Reserved for the last day were some extremely big events, with Sahil Agarwal winning the Big Daddy tournament, 'Mishtabond' shipping the Sunday SuperStack and the mega Main Event being shipped by Dhawal Lachhwani.
A couple of other side events were held, but the above three were the highlight tournaments of the day, giving away lakhs of rupees in guaranteed prizes. After these big tournaments, Spartan decided to host a slightly smaller tournament to end proceedings on SSS Day 7 - SSS Event #37 Speedster INR 5 Lakh GTD.
The INR 1,100 re-entry tournament kicked off at 10pm IST and saw a 502-entry strong field participating, with the guarantee being passed and the top 45 players being awarded a minimum cash of INR 2,761. Topping this field was Bhanu Prakash aka 'spectre', a regular online player and winner on Spartan.
He has always been among the big wins on Spartan, being a previous SSS Main Event and Leaderboard winner in September 2017. He was also a regular feature on final tables in the recent India Online Poker Championship (IOPC), where he won a title and then also won the Cool Leaderboard Challenge for the month of July.
In this particular SSS tournament, Prakash won the top prize of INR 95,380. He beat 'prana' in heads-up, who settled for the runners-up prize of INR 69,025. The final hand took place in Level #58, where the blinds were running 32,500/65,000 - 6,500 and Prakash had a chip lead of nearly 3:1. Ultimately, Prakash's Sevens and Threes turned out to be better than his opponent's pair of Threes.
With that, we reached the end of this edition of the Spartan Super Series, and Gutshot would like to congratulate all the winners of this prestigious tournament series. Here's a look at the final SSS Leaderboard rankings, where a total of INR 10 lakh was awarded to the top 10 finishers:
