Dai Luiheng wins APL Xi'an High Roller
Apart from the recently concluded APT Korea Championships, there was another high-profile Asian poker tournament series taking place, with the Asia Poker League (APL) Xi'an, China, scheduled between 14-22 August. Today is the last day of the series, with the Main Event winner yet to be decided.
With two APL series already taking place earlier in the year, this was the third stop of 2018, at the relatively new location of Xi'an, China. Many tournaments were scheduled at the Xi‘an Baoyulin Poker Club, one of them being the APL High Roller, with a steep buy-in of CNY15,000 (~INR 1,53,000).
A total of 63 entries registered to the tournament and a total prize pool of CNY 916,650 (~INR 93.55 lakh) was generated, to be shared among the top few. At the end of this tournament, it was local Chinese player Dai Luiheng won took away the title, beating a few top Asian pros for the top prize of CNY 275,000 (~INR 28.07 lakh).
Luiheng didn't have very much of an impressive poker CV before this win, with just a couple of live cashes around China. Now, however, he will be one to watch out for in future Asian events. J88poker ambassador Jin Tian was also one to watch out for, and he didn't disappoint, eventually finishing 4th in the High Roller.
Final Payouts (in CNY):
- Dai Luiheng - 275,000 (~$39,979)
- Chen Ping – CNY 175,000
- Zhang Ning - 130,000
- Jin Tian - 100,000
- Cui Dongdong - 85,000
- Li Nan - 60,000
- Zhou Jianguo - 50,000
- Zhang Yijie - 41,650
After this tournament, all the focus then shifted to the highlight of the series, the Main Event, which attracted 760 entries. APL General Manager, James Kim, said, “We are very pleased with the attendance of this event. It’s our first event in Xi’An and we hope that this turnout will encourage more international players to make the trip to China to play poker”.
