Daniel Dvoress wins Super High Roller Bowl for $4 million
While Indians have been overcrowding the World Poker Tour (WPT) Cambodia, the sixth edition of the annual Super High Roller Bowl (SHRB), the biggest high-stakes event, recently concluded. Attracting the best and brightest poker minds from around the world shouldn't be overshadowed. The host venue Baha Mar in Bahamas crowned Canadian pro Daniel Dvoress the champion of the SHRB for a whopping $4.08 million (~INR 29.27 Crores) after defeating Malaysia’s Wai Leong Chan in heads-up.
The three-day-long affair pulled out 51 players, each one chipping in $250,000 buy-in. The prize pool shot up to $12.75 million, and the 31-year old Russian born pro took home this 7-figure score after railing some of the best-known players in the industry. Now sitting 5th in Canada’s All-Time money list, this score took his total live earnings to over $15 million!
Dvoress expressed, “This is the most prepared I’ve felt for a tournament relative to the rest of the field. I felt really comfortable all day and coasted through it without emotional swings.” Other experienced pros tumbling away early included Wai Kin Yong (9th), Stephen Chidwick (11th), Richard Yong (12th), Tony G (14th), Isaac Haxton (20th), Bryn Kenney (21st), Paul Phua (25th), Michael Soyza (26th) and others.
After long hours of continuous grinding, the final hand of the tournament arrived. Dvoress (Ad 9d) had a massive lead of 8.5:1 up against Chan (Jd 7h) in heads-up. The board ran 8h 7s 3h 10h 6s, Dvoress showed his straight over his opponent’s single pair of Sevens, capturing the coveted title along with the enormous prize money.
