David Jackson wins Borgata Spring Poker Open Championship
On Friday evening, the Borgata Spring Poker Championship declared its Main Event winner. The $2,700 ME saw 505 entries in the field, advertising a guarantee of $1 million in prize pool. USA’s David Jackson (pictured below) won his largest live score by shipping it for $304,929 (~INR 2.11 Crores) as first-place prize money.
The final day of the event saw the whittled down field of 6 play for the kill-shot top prize. The day began with Andrew Dudley and Michel Cohen having stacks under 15 BBs. Everyone else on the table was with over 40 BBs. They both got railed first on the table.
Eventually, heads-up began between Jackson and Shannon Shorr. Shorr had over 6:1 chip lead over Jackson, which makes Jackson’s win all the more impressive. He made a comeback by doubling with King-queen over Queen-jack.
The final hand of the tournament saw a huge pot being created; both having gone all-in on the fully revealed board of 8d 4s 2h 7d 9h. Jackson eventually beat his opponent with Eights over Queen-high failed bluff. Shorr settled for $171,448 to his name after the win, and now has over $7 million in total recorded live cashes.
This is Jackson’s 11th tournament win, and his 2nd one at Borgata. Previously, he had only one six-figure earning, which he won for finishing 4th in 2014 WSOP. He now has over $1.8 million in total live cashes and will be looking to ship a lot more in coming months.
