Dolly’s Game – a Mixed-Game Show starring Doyle Brunson
After announcing his retirement in June last year, the ‘Godfather of Poker’ Doyle Brunson went on to live a life of complete solitude from the business of poker. His wife wasn’t well at the time and hence he had decided to look after her and stated that he would stop playing poker professionally.
Brunson later started a joint-venture with his son Todd Brunson, called the Brunson Poker Pro training course. The father-son duo introduced a novel Poker Learning System to encourage and help novice players to grasp the intricacies of this skill-based game and for some of the pros who are looking to brush up their skills under the tutelage of someone like Doyle Brunson.
In a recent development, Brunson made a comeback in the mainstream. He will feature in a fresh TV show created by PokerGO, which also hosts another popular show called ‘Poker After Dark’. The Brunson show is called ‘Dolly’s Game’, a wordplay on the recently released movie ‘Molly’s Game’ directed by Aaron Sorkin. You can read our review of the movie here.
Dolly’s Game is a cash game series that takes place in Las Vegas in PokerGO’s Studio outside of ARIA, on the Strip. The back-to-back nights of high-stakes mixed-game action is to be lined-up and livestreamed all for the pleasure of the audience.
The recurring series will open with two $100,000 NL Single Draw cash games. The table will also feature some of the renowned names in the poker circuit. David ‘Viffer’ Peat, Shawn Sheikhan, Ron Kirk, Lyle Berman, Billy O’Neal and Majid Yahyaei are the players to play on the table with Brunson.
Ron Kirk is a businessman by profession and hails from Kentucky, while USA's David Peat was a popular player in Poker After Dark’s debut episode 10 years ago. Sheikhan and Berman are veterans in the worldwide poker scene and need no introduction.
Brunson commented on this new venture saying, “I’ve been playing this great game my entire life. I’m glad to continue the legacy and bring it to a new, wider audience.” One of the reasons for this show is to introduce mixed games to a “wider audience.”
Mixed games have been very popular in the US and have featured in various high-stakes festivals, but it’s somewhat rare for it to appear on television. The all-time popular Texas Hold’em currently occupies largest air-time on TV. So, featuring someone like Brunson in a mixed game TV show will undoubtedly increase its popularity and prove to be an entertaining show too.
