Gerard Piqué spotted at EPT Barcelona High Roller
Gerard Piqué is an extremely popular figure in the sporting industry and there are many things you can associate the man with like football, FC Barcelona, the UEFA Champions League, Shakira, and much more. However, the game of poker is another thing he is often associated with, with a few live cashes to his name, dating back to 2011.
The Barcelona centre-back has four prior cashes in Barcelona itself and loves to walk out for another try if not training or playing a game. His former teammate, Neymar, has also frequently displayed his love for poker, recently finishing 6th in a BSOP tournament in Brazil.
Yesterday, Piqué registered to the €10,300 High Roller in Barcelona and was among one of the first to bust his chip stacks, when he went all-in with pocket Fives against Scott Margereson, who hit a pair of Aces on the turn. Piqué made an early exit, but he made use of the single re-entry option and entered again, for another shot at glory.
Piqué then won a couple of pots and his chances were looking bright, considerably chipping up with his second bullet. However, he soon became one of the first to bust out a second time, losing with pocket Deuces to James Romero, who hit a pair of Jacks on the flop. Clearly, the footballer seems to have a weakness when it comes to pocket pairs.
For all those who don't know, Piqué ended an impressive run last year at a €25,500 NLHE Event in the PokerStars Championship Barcelona, finishing 5th for a career-best live cash of €129,350. Of course, he earns much more on the football field, but who doesn't like to have a bit of fun at the poker tables?
At the end of Day 1 of the High Roller tournament, USA's David Peters leads 47 survivors into Day 2. For all updates on international poker tournaments, and other celebrities trying their hand at poker, keep reading GutshotMagazine.com.
