Good run continues for Kanishka Samant; wins Mega Freeze
Mumbai-based poker player Kanishka Samant seems to really be on a heater at the moment in online poker, especially on Spartan Poker. The last one month has seen him make a number of deep runs in featured tournaments while also bagging a couple of titles during this time.
Just around 10 days back, Samant won one of Spartan's newer tournament offerings called Head-Hunter and last week, he finished second to Deepak Bothra in Destiny. All of this comes a couple of months after he won Destiny 8.0 and a fully sponsored package trip to Europe, so you can see how he has been constantly bringing his A-game to the virtual felts.
Last night too, he participated in and won the Monday night feature on Spartan Poker called Mega Freeze INR 5 Lakh GTD which is played in the freezeout format. 95 players entered, each paying the buy-in of INR 5,500. The 6-and-a-half-hour grind ended at 2:36am this morning and when we reached the end, Samant was the last man standing.
Only the top 13 players were paid with a min-cash of INR 10,250 and Samant was the biggest beneficiary from them, bagging INR 1,31,250 for this victory. Playing as 'Wildflower' on Spartan, he smashed through the field, knocking out quite a few players on his way to picking up the title. In heads-up, he outlasted 'ruparuppi' who won the runner-up prize of INR 92,000.
When Gutshot contacted the winner, he told us about his amazing comeback from being quite short stacked in heads-up. He said, "The heads-up battle against 'ruparuppi' started with me having 1.5 million chips vs 8 million chips. It was a crazy heads up battle to finally win the Mega Freeze title."
