‘grind121’ wins IOPC Event #1 on Spartan
This is the best part of the year for poker players all across India, as The Spartan Poker launched another edition of the India Online Poker Championship (IOPC) - the second IOPC tournament series of the year. They've gone all out this time to offer a record-breaking INR 7+ crore in guaranteed prizes.
The series kicked off yesterday and is scheduled to take place between 13-22 July 2018, with a total of 55 tournaments to be played during this time. IOPC Event #1 INR 3 Lac GTD (330 R+A) started at 2pm IST and the much-anticipated series began with a bang, with a massive field of 1,614 entries registering to the tournament.
The low buy-in of INR 330 saw a high participation and the guarantee was crushed with a new prize pool of over INR 4.8 lakh being created. The tournament lasted for 6 hours and 20 minutes before a winner was crowned in 'grind121', who took home the top prize of INR 93,934.
He beat 'bhavin-44' in heads-up after nearly building a 2:1 chip lead. In Level #50, the blinds were running at 40,000/80,000 - 8,000 when we witnessed what became the final hand of the tournament. grind121 held 8c-4c while bhavin-44 held 2h-9h, as the board opened 6h-4d-9c-2c. grind121 then pushed the rest of his chips into the pot when the river card opened 6c and he struck a 9-high flush.
bhavin-44 called the bet and had two pairs - Nines and Sixes. However, this wasn't enough to beat a flush and he had to settle for the runners-up prize of INR 59,556 as his opponent took down the pot, the title of the opening event of the IOPC and also gained vital points towards the IOPC Leaderboard. For those who don't know, over INR 30 lakh are up for grabs in that leaderboard, including a grand Jeep Compass and a stunning Bajaj Dominar!
