Helm wins APT Championships Event; Munot finishes 6th

Asian Poker Tour (APT) recently wrapped up yet another successful event in Asia, this time in the Pro Poker Club, Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. Scheduled between 3-14 July 2019, APT Vietnam ended yesterday with a few side events and a highlight event, APT Championships Event VND 6 Billion GTD, all declaring winners on the final day.

The Championships Event began with just the final 8 players in contention on Day 4 yesterday which included our very own Ashish Munot, who was 3rd in chips among the final 8 at the end of Day 3. However, he wasn't fortunate enough to keep up the advantage yesterday, eventually busting in 6th place on the FT, out of a total field of 192 entries.

He was against some of the top pros in the Asian circuit and did very well to get to where he did, and he was rewarded with a prize of VND 319,830,000 (~INR 9.46 Lakh) for this effort. Play went on after Munot hit the rail and the tournament came to an end when the final three decided to cut a deal based on current chip stacks.

They locked up similar cash prizes because of their stacks and then, there was a string of all-ins which saw Nguyen Nam Duong falling out in 3rd place and David Erquiaga heading out next in 2nd place, leaving New Zealand's Oliver Helm as the last man standing. Along with the cash prize for first-place, Helm won the APT Championship Trophy and the APT Championship Ring.

It was a brilliant series for Helm, who won VND 1.21 Billion here after also finishing 3rd in the APT Vietnam Main Event, which was shipped by China's Zhou Jiaping. As for Munot, he would be happy to have made such a deep run in the international arena and we could very well see him making more frequent poker trips overseas now.

Final Table Results:

  1. Oliver Helm - VND 1,218,670,000 (deal)
  2. David Erquiaga - VND 1,179,400,000 (deal)
  3. Nguyen Nam Duong - VND 1,128,600,000 (deal)
  4. Joseph Talamayan - VND 554,120,000
  5. Vamerdino Magsakay - VND 414,400,000
  6. Ashish Munot - VND 319,830,000
  7. Tanaka Masatoshi - VND 253,970,000
  8. Lim Chor Heng - VND 206,920,000
