IPL 2018: SRH defend again, RCB lose again

Royal Challengers Bangalore had to win each and every one of their remaining games in IPL 2018 if they wanted to qualify for the play-offs. Yesterday, they took on Sunrisers Hyderabad and dominated over 80% of the game, from start to end. However, it looks like the team is not destined to win an IPL trophy. They lost another match.

Virat Kohli would've been overjoyed after having finally won a toss and doing what he loves most - chasing. His bowlers started well, picked regular wickets and even though the pair of Kane Williamson (56) and Shakib al Hasan (35) threatened to take the game away, they recovered well and bowled Hyderabad out for 146.

The pacers Siraj and Southee picked up 3 wickets each, Umesh picked up one and regained the Purple Cap, Kohli effected two run outs and basically, everything seemed to be going well for the Bengaluru franchise.

Parthiv Patel was dismissed after scoring a quick cameo of 20(13) and Kohli came in and started playing a fine, aggressive knock. With Parthiv initially taking most of the strike and then later Virat doing the same, Manan Vohra had only played 9 balls after the first 7 overs of the innings.

Vohra didn’t get time to settle in and played the ball onto his stumps. Then, the RCB hopes started fading as Kohli didn't judge the pace of a ball from Shakib al Hasan and was caught at the edge of the circle. Once again, we saw the wicket of AB de Villiers falling immediately after that of Kohli's, and at 84/5 without Kohli, Moeen and ABD, there wasn't a lot of hope left.

Colin de Grandhomme was at the crease, but Sunrisers did what they've done perfectly in their last 3-4 games. The magician Rashid Khan choked the batsmen in the middle overs while all of the other bowlers were picking up wickets as well. The 6th wicket partnership lasted until the last over, but the required rate kept rising and 12 runs off the last over against Bhuvneshwar Kumar is seldom achievable.

He bowled yorker after yorker and SRH ultimately won by 5 runs. Once again, they did what they do best - defend low totals. The last four scores they’ve defended in IPL 2018 are 118, 132, 151 and now 146. Clearly, they are the team to beat in this season of the Indian Premier League. Man of the Match: Kane Williamson.
