Ishita Sharma’s MukkaMaar, Spartan Poker join hands again!

USA’s Socialist Party once organized a Women’s Day celebration on 28th February 1909 in New York, and ever since then, this occasion has taken place each year based on a suggestion from the International Socialist Woman’s Conference in 1910. International Women’s Day takes place annually on 8th March to celebrate womanhood and the successes of various independent women across various fields of life.

In India too, this day has been given special importance, as women’s rights haven’t always been exercised and women haven’t been given equal status in society over the centuries. As part of the awareness campaigns, leading Indian poker company Spartan Poker has always done its bit on Women’s Day, joining a list of other CSR activities conducted by the brand.

Spartan has enjoyed a long relationship with MukkaMaar, an organization which works towards empowering girls through free martial arts and self-defence training. Initiated by Bollywood actress and social activist Ishita Sharma, MukkaMaar aims at teaching underprivileged girls basic martial arts techniques.

Last year, Spartan joined hands with MukkaMaar to celebrate Women’s Day at the Rajarani School, Oshiwara, Mumbai. The event was graced by celebrities like Nushrat Bharucha, Pooja Gor, Kritika Kamra, Nayani Dixit and Tess Joseph, as they spread the ‘Stronger Together’ message.

We witnessed some fascinating performances from martial arts experts and the MukkaMaar girls, while there was also a documentary called ‘Girl Rising’ screened for the children and parents at the event, to highlight the importance of educating girls to ensure a better future for our nation.

In August 2018, Spartan and MukkaMaar came together again to felicitate the top-performing MukkaMaar girls at the 10th Mumbai City District level Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior Wushu Championship. Also present at the event was Fatima Shaikh, famous for portraying Geeta Phogat in the blockbuster film, Dangal. She also recently starred in Thugs of Hindostan.

The relation between the two is expected to only get stronger as they have already hosted a few successful events. Talking about the association with Spartan Poker, Ishita Sharma said, “What a fantastic journey it has been! I am ever so grateful to Spartan Poker for joining hands with us right at the beginning! And we are still going strong, touch wood. Amin Rozani has been so kind and generous always. And I feel we don’t say this enough, so please accept this humble thank you on behalf of the whole team.”

Today, another event will be hosted in Mumbai to mark the occasion of Women’s Day 2019, where the MukkaMaar girls will put up various performances, while there are also other performances lined up for those who will be present at the venue. Kritika Kamra is a renowned Bollywood actress who recently collaborated with Spartan Poker to make a video wherein she talks about how women are subject to constant verbal digs in today’s world. The ‘#ProudLadaaki’ video urges women to be strong and fight against such behaviour. Abeer Arsiwala will also be present, mid-fielder for India’s women’s football team, while the likes of Sharad Kelkar and Mohit Raina will also grace the occasion.

Amin Rozani, co-founder and MD of Spartan Poker, commented on the same, saying, “Ishita Sharma and the MukkaMaar team are doing a great job in teaching these young girls the art of self-defence through martial arts, while also training them to lead healthier and more disciplined lifestyles. It’s indeed an honour to be associated with this group and we hope to see some entertaining performances from the girls this Women’s Day.”

The event will begin at 3pm today afternoon in Mumbai and GutshotMagazine.com will be present as well, so stay tuned for all updates, highlights, images and videos.
