The World Health Organization warned the world as an “uncharted territory” as coronavirus cases continued to spread in the West and Italy. The deadly virus shook a number of industries especially casinos and sports. Live poker tends to draw numerous enthusiasts from around the globe and now with the overwhelming deaths reported each week, various tournament series have been cancelled and casinos forced to shut down.

A few days earlier the Europe’s largest poker room, the King’s Casino in Rozvadov announced that it plans to close doors to all Italian players in order to curb the spread of coronavirus infection. Only a month back, a bunch of Indian players hit the casino floors of King’s Resort which hosted TIPS 2020. Owing to its location and inexpensive as it is, the casino tends to draw several poker nationals.

A post published on the poker room’s Facebook account saying, “King's Resort regrets to announce that, given the evolution of the coronavirus epidemic that since a few hours affected also the Czech Republic,…to preserve the health of its international clientele, and to prevent the spread of COVID-19, has decided to limit the access to all areas of the casino as well as to not accept any hotel reservations made by Italian residents.” The casino further mentioned that this policy is effective immediately for an “undetermined amount of time.”

The decision came after the first coronavirus case in Czech Republic’s capital Prague. According to the Czech local press, two out of every five have been detected with the coronavirus epidemic in Prague who recently visited Italy. As of now, Italy has recorded the most coronavirus case than any other country beyond Asia about 2,263 virus cases and 79 deaths.

All the events supposed to be held in March and April that aimed at drawing Italian players are now off the casino’s schedule. Further, the casino noted that “the schedule continues to be as planned after May 1, 2020.” For more updates on poker tournaments and gaming industry related news, keep reading and stay tuned!
