Asian Poker Tour (APT)’s 3rd stop for the year is 2019 APT Taiwan. The series took off on 20th Feb already 6 side-events have declared its champions. This is the first time APT has hosted in the country, and naturally it attracted a good turnout given APT’s repute in the region. APT Japan Tokyo, the stop before this one, was also the first time APT was in Japan.

APT Taiwan Main Event TWD 5 million GTD saw 76 entrants participating on the first starting flight of Day 1A, out of which only 35 progressed. Yesterday, Day 1B also went into the books at the CTP Club, Taiwan, and saw a total of 127 runners competing. The chip leader to emerge out of 64 survivors was USA’s Manh Nguyen (pictured below) with 138k chips bagged.

Nguyen is closely followed by China’s Chen Dong at 2nd with 134,700 chips and Singapore’s Ng Yen Pin with 127,100 chips. Nguyen is also the overall chip leader till now and has Day 1A’s leader Lin Min Jie beat by 200 chips.

Coming to the chip leader, Ngyuyen hails from Pennsylvania, USA, and has over $500k in live cashes till now. His best live cash came from winning an event DeepStack Extravaganza III in Las Vegas back in 2011. The APT Taiwan is still open to registering so the pay-outs aren’t out yet, but Nguyen has good chance of shipping it or at least making a deep run and earning top dollar.

Some of the notable players in the mix yesterday and who qualified for Day 2 were WSOPC Sydney HR winner Luke Martinelli, 2017 WPT Asia-Pacific POY Pete Chen, Singaporean pro Alex Lee and Taiwan’s Terry Fan who has over $1 million in live cashes.

The Main Event will see its 3rd and final starting flight hosted today. Day 1A and 1B’s total 99 players will join 1C’s progressors to play on Day 2 tomorrow. The following day, 25th Feb, will see the Final Table emerge, who will play for the 1st place title and cash prize on 26th Feb.
