Mikalai Pobal triumphs EPT Prague Main Event for €1,005,600!

Hilton Prague witnessed a remarkable night that made into the books at the 2019 PokerStars LIVE European Poker Tour (EPT) Prague Main Event crowning the new champion Belarus’ Mikalai Pobal who stood as the second two-time winner in the history of EPT!

The six-day prolonged tournament saw the third and biggest Main Event that enticed a grand 1,154 players only to build the prize pool to €5.59 million and the top 167 players strolled out with a slice from the same. However, Pobal took away the lion’s share claiming a top prize only to become the second player after Victoria Coren Mitchell who won two EPT Main Events.

Gaby Livshitz initiated the day with his incredible stack of 11,205,000 chips and led the top 5. The first causality was Tomas Paiva when his top pair couldn’t stand against Livshitz’s open-ended straight draw with a flush. However, Livshitz was the one to follow his heels after the short-stacked Pobal roared back into the competition doubling up through the former whose pocket Queens couldn’t stand against Pobal’s Ace-King. The next few hours saw Pobal climbing up the ladder pushing out Livshitz holding Ace-Queen on a Queen high flop and was eventually eliminated by pair of Aces. The chip lead kept shuffling between Pobal and Norbat Szecsi while Ricardo Da Rocha was seeking to become the first Brazilian to win EPT in poker history but tumbled away in the third place.

Down to the remaining two players, both discussed a potential deal but couldn’t come to any agreement. Szecsi was looking for more than the ICM deal could offer and the action commenced once again without any agreement in place.

In level 32, Szecsi held 8s 8c and Pobal with Ks Kc put a three-bet to 1.5 million and the former responded with a shove for 6.3 million and a snap-call from the latter. The board ran 4c 6c 3d 2d Ah couldn’t create much difference for Szecsi and the tournament ended right there. Pobal railed out his opponent with Kings versus Eights and claimed the entire €1,005,600 (~INR 7.95 Crores) in prize money.

For the champion, the EPT Prague score comes in second after he previously won a 7-figure €1,007,550 in EPT Barcelona Main Event. Now boosting his overall live earnings to $2.48 million, Pobal sits 4th in Belarus’ All-Time money list.

Final table payouts:

  1. Mikalai Pobal - €1,005,600
  2. Norbert Szecsi - €598,880
  3. Ricardo Da Rocha - €421,450
  4. Gaby Livshitz - €316,780
  5. Tomas Paiva - €241,230
