Neel Joshi bubbles FT at Venetian DeepStack

Everyone has their attention and focus at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2019 which is currently underway in the Rio All Suites Casino in Las Vegas. However, at the start of the series, we had mentioned that there are a number of other high-value tournaments and series taking place around Vegas, which our Indian players were definitely aware of.

The DeepStack Championship Poker Series is one such series taking place at The Venetian Las Vegas and Neel Joshi saw some value in this series, after also recently making a cash in the Millionaire Maker tournament at WSOP 2019. He recently participated and did well in DeepStack Extravaganza Event #52: $1,100 NLH DoubleStack $250K GTD.

The 2-day event began on 10th June and a total of 391 entries took part in the event, with Neel Joshi being the only Indian in the field. A total of 45 places were paid and Joshi was one of the runners with a pretty decent stack. Tables were running 9-handed but the FT was 10-handed, with Joshi bubbling it, exiting in 11th place for $6,088 (~INR 4.22 Lakh).

The field had some pretty famous poker players in it including Chris Moorman, so Joshi did well to reach to this stage. His cash in Millionaire Maker was the best of his live poker career and just a few days later, he has bested it with this 11th place finish. Clearly, he has a bright future in the game and with over a month to go at WSOP, we may see him getting a few more cashes.

Gutshot reached out to Joshi after we heard of his impressive run at The Venetian and he said, "To be honest, I'm just really thrilled that I could survive and play my game in a field that included a number of regs and which was much tougher than I thought while registering."

Joshi also recounted a fun incident on the table, saying, “A British-Indian tourist was on my table. Guy angle shot me, and I fell for it. Very first level, 3-way pot, turn card is dealt. Initial raiser bets, I flat with a straight flush draw, and this guy puts out two 5k chips, and then grimaces a bit, shows immediate regret on his face, as though he meant to call with the 500s, but accidentally raised. Initial raiser folds, I go all in, he snaps me with the nut straight, which is the nuts. I river the flush though. I fell for it, but he paid for it. Got to stay aware of these things, learnt a lesson.”
