Nishant Sharma wins SSS Day 1 PLO High Roller
Day 1 of April’s Spartan Super Series (SSS) was running yesterday on Spartan Poker. The platform held a total of 6 events for the first day, the biggest being the feature Wednesday event, Destiny which is in its 9th edition as we speak.
The second biggest tournament for the day was the PLO High Roller INR 20 Lakhs GTD. For a buy-in of INR 22,000, the fat bankrollers, the absolute cream of the crop was ensured to participate and that’s exactly what happened. The Final Table itself was studded with a handful of pros from the community.
A total of 77 entries (including 18 re-entries and 15 re-buys) were attracted to the tournament which began at 9 pm yesterday on Spartan. The top 9 places were paid out of the prize pool with the min-cash being INR 60k. All the players fought hard but after about 6 hours, only one champion emerged.
India’s best WSOP Main Event finisher Nishant Sharma aka ‘FunkyouFTW1’ bagged the PLO HR title and the first-place cash prize of INR 5,83,000. He beat ‘JasonBourne’ in heads-up, a name who hasn’t revealed himself but has finished frequently in the tops in past tournaments, so there’s a fair chance he’s a pro.
The last hand between Sharma and JasonBourne saw the former ahead in chip counts by a great margin. He proceeded to finish off his opponent with Jc Kd 8c Ad hole cards. JasonBourne haplessly shoved in with 5c Kc 6d Ks pre-flop. The board revealed Ts 5h 9d Td As and gave Aces and Tens to Sharma which was enough to beat Bourne’s Kings and Tens. The runner-up settled for INR 4,20,000.
Sharma, a strong live and online player, has major achievements to his name. Among his recent online wins include Spartan Flash and Adda52 Millions, both this year. He is a player who requires no bankroll addition to indulge in his love for poker, but this wholesome prize will be converted into more wins in no time by his experienced hands.
The paid places on Spartan yesterday included the likes of Sumit Sapra aka ‘[email protected]’ (3rd – INR 2,73,000), Gaurav Sood aka ‘mozzie17’ (4th – INR 2,06,000) and Siddarth Singhvi aka ‘PeterPunter’ (9th – INR 60,000). Other heavyweights of the community also were in the mix but couldn’t bag a pay-check at the end.
The SSS played out 5 other events yesterday. Stay tuned to GutshotMagazine.com for the results of those as well as other tournaments from around the world.
