No Crypto For Asian Poker Tour

The APT (Asian Poker Tour) made a big announcement over the weekend about their new agreement with CoinPoker, a cryptocurrency-based online poker room. As per the agreement, the sponsor would allow players from around the world to satellite into its APT Macau Main Event and Super High Roller Event using CHP, a cryptocurrency developed by and used on CoinPoker.

However, APT has now come out with another announcement, shelving plans of incorporating the use of cryptocurrencies in their upcoming APT Macau Championships, which is scheduled to take place between 25th April and 6th May, at the Babylon Casino in Macau.

CoinPoker was all set to make a big splash in the poker world by announcing another poker partnership, with the Japanese Poker Association (JPA). As per the agreement, they would sponsor the JPA and launch a series of qualifiers for entry into Day 1 of the tournament.

CoinPoker's aims of becoming a front-runner in the Asian poker community have now taken a hit with APT pulling out of the agreement just a week before the APT Macau Championships, citing regulatory concerns.

“Clearly, each APT event is different, and we are mindful of local operating guidelines. I can confirm that the APT Macau Championships will not be associated with cryptocurrency in any way and I apologize for any confusion in the market,” said APT CEO Jeff Mann, in a statement to Inside Asian Gaming.

The APT earlier believed that cryptocurrency would be the ideal marketing tool to take their brand more global and attract players from Europe and even from the Americas. However, it is confirmed that there will be no association between APT and CoinPoker. For now, at least.
