PokerStars launches early access VR game worldwide
About a month ago, PokerStars announced their PokerStars VR, a free-to-play virtual reality app which works on Virtual Reality devices like Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. This release was made possible after a successful beta test that included more than 150 invitees. PokerStars VR is now available on Early Access on Steam, Oculus Store and Viveport. The game was developed in coordination with Lucky VR Inc., which specializes in developing online casino games.
The PokerStars VR opens a new dimension which was previously missing in online poker gaming. You can study your opponents, pick up on their tells, and chat in real time with the players using mic. There are fun and interactive toys and props to add to the overall banter that is so essential for a player to have a good time at the table.
The key features of PokerStars VR include a simple and intuitive learning curve, realistic physics, from cards and chips to other props and more. You can even unlock free chips daily. PokerStars is also asking for new word suggestions to add to the VR poker lexicon, describing moments in VR experience. The best suggestion will win a free Oculus Rift headset with touch controllers.
You can play PokerStars VR in five different locales, a futuristic Macau by the night, a relaxing Macau suite, a classic saloon straight out of a Western flick, a yacht in Monte-Carlo by the sea, or the total void, without any distractions.
Severin Rasset, Director of Poker Innovation and Operations at PokerStars, commented on this, saying, “When we showcased the product, it was amazing to see people really enjoy and become engrossed in the game. We wanted to venture into the world of virtual reality because we believe it is an exciting avenue of technology to explore and something that our players would appreciate. I highly recommend that everyone tries out the game as it can only truly be understood and enjoyed by experiencing it.”
The reviews on Steam are welcoming and players are excited about this game. One reviewer added “Amazing game. Played poker, won some pots, shot a beer bottle out of someone’s hand. 10/10”. Another added “The graphics were crisp and lots of attention to detail. Just imagine when people can put real money (Bitcoin?) into games. JUST GET IT!” So far however, several countries are yet to get the VR update in the PokerStars client, including India. If it catches on, we expect that to change soon.
