The Spartan Super Series (SSS) had its final day on The Spartan Poker yesterday, a series where INR 4+ crore was given away to winners over the course of seven days. Before the prestigious Main Event began last night, there were a couple of other side events scheduled for the day.

One of these was SSS Event #32 INR 2 Lakh GTD which marked the start of the day and this INR 550 buy-in tournament saw a healthy participation of 428 entries which took the prize pool up to INR 2,14,000, slightly beating the advertised guarantee. This was eventually shared among the top 30 players with a min-cash of INR 1,605.

Coming out on top of the field and taking away the biggest prize was Pravin Jain aka 'Riverhunter', who successfully added an amount of INR 44,940 to his poker bankroll. He accomplished this win after a long grind and after successfully beating 'tilt_master' in heads-up, who won INR 31,458 for finishing second.

To be honest, nothing except the prize money was different between the final two players. They had nearly identical chip stacks coming into what became the final hand, where they almost had identical hands as well. This hand took place in Level #47, with the blinds at 12,500/25,000 - 2,500.

Jain was dealt 9d Kc while tilt_master was dealt Ks 7d in this hand, with both players decided to go all-in on the Kd Qd 8h and both hitting a pair of Kings. 6h and Qs were the next couple of cards to open on the board and both players had Kings and Queens, with Jain having a higher kicker, Nine, which was enough to win him the title and the top prize money.

Gutshot caught up with Jain after this victory. The Delhi-based player has completed his Bachelor’s in Psychology and is now a full-time poker player. The 31-year old started his journey in poker when his friend took him to a Casino around 5 years back, at a point when he didn’t know to play any card games. He said, “I was even hesitant trying it but once I got into the lure of it I couldn't resist and in a matter of 3 years from then I started playing poker full time.”

Talking about SSS Event #32, he said, “It was a long tourney. I started slow and built my way up. At times there were dry phases, but I never let my patience go down. A few hands towards the final phases helped me shipping it. One hand I had pocket Kings and I limped, and the opponent shoved on Ace Ten off-suit. I called and won with a pair of Kings. That helped me reach the final table. Also, a similar hand on the final table when I had Aces and my opponent shoved on pocket queens. That's when I really got the feeling that now I could ship it. And from there on I did not look back.”

We also asked him about his future plans in poker. He said, “I wish to grow bigger and better in this booming industry, because I know that if you can play good poker, the future is bright. I missed out on shipping the Last Two of a Kind where I was on the final table but busted at 7th position. This time I hope to ship it. Long miles, big dreams and promises to fulfil. Hope I can do it.”

The day later progressed with Rajat Sharma winning the SSS Sunday SuperStack and the prestigious SSS Main Event title going to Phanindra Akkina. Keep reading GutshotMagazine.com for more updates on the Spartan Super Series.
