Preity Zinta advocates legalizing betting in India
The debate on legalizing sports betting in India has been a never-ending one, going on for years now. However, we haven't been as close to having legal sports betting in the country as we are at this point of time. Several top organizations and entities are advocating the legalization of gambling and sports betting in the country, and the chances of it happening are higher than ever.
When you think of sports betting in India, cricket is the first sport that pops into your head, and in India, Bollywood is largely associated with the sport. The most recent Bollywood celebrity to speak up about sports betting in the country is none other than Preity Zinta.
Zinta is an actress and also co-owner of the Kings XI Punjab franchise at the Indian Premier League (IPL), right since the inception of the league in 2008. She believes that legalizing sports betting in India will provide a huge boost to revenue in the country, while also curbing corruption and fixing in the sport.
She said, “I think it would be important if the government legalizes betting because it will be a good source of revenue and stuff and secondly, we can stop all this crap because how many people can you control. So, that’s why I said let’s do a random lie detector test, BCCI should just make it part of the policy, it will be amazing. Because of the fear of knowing that I can get caught, that’s what you need. You can’t police people that much.”
Recently, Zinta spoke about this at the India Today Conclave East 2018, but this isn't the first time she has voiced her opinion on this matter. She isn't the first big personality to advocate legalization of sports betting and surely won't be the last. Keep reading GutshotMagazine.com for more updates on this story.
