Pulkit Goyal ships SSS PLO Highroller

He is one of the most consistent players in India's online poker scenario at the moment and Pulkit Goyal made his mark yet again in the ongoing Spartan Super Series (SSS). Goyal overcame a pretty big field in last night's Pot Limit Omaha tournament to claim the biggest share of the prizepool at the end of a seven and half hour marathon at The Spartan Poker.

Event #15 in the SSS schedule is the only PLO tournament in this edition's schedule and therefore the only highroller event as well. Featuring a buy-in of INR 22,000 and an enticing 25 Lakhs as guaranteed prizepool, this event was sure to draw a good level of participation from Indian PLO enthusiasts and they came in droves. The final prizepool clocked at just under INR 31 Lakhs (30.80 Lakhs) which was to be distributed among the top 15 money finishers.

A minimum payday of INR 58,520 was assured for the afore-mentioned 15 players. Making an appearance on the final table of this event were regs like Jason Pereira ('OMGMinerals') who finished in 6th for INR 1,54,000 after firing two bullets in this event. Eliminated one spot above was well known Indian pro Sahil Agarwal who plays as 'Nasheyy' (INR 1,92,500). Taking the second runner-up position was Vivek 'Pokerbatman27' Rughani who had a fantastic outing at the WSOP a few months earlier. Rughani's third place finish netted him a pay package worth INR 3,69,600.

Rughani's elimination meant Pulkit Goyal a.k.a 'Championplayer' would go into heads-up battle with BigL with nearly even stacks although the latter had a slender lead. It is quite unusual to see a long drawn heads-up take place in online tournaments but there was a lot at stake for both players, a chance to win the big prize and of course score those leaderboard points which awards a cool INR 4 Lakhs (out of a total of 10 Lakhs) to the SSS Leaderboard winner. Both players did not give an inch and plenty of pots were traded back and forth for the better part of an hour when it finally came down to the final hand.

BigL with (9d Ks Ad Qh) made it 175k to go with blinds at 35,000/70,000. Championplayer holding an almost 3:1 lead decided to make the call with 6h Th 3h 7c. The flop Tc 8d Ah drew checks from both players where Championplayer was the aggressor on the turn (7h) betting out 280k which was flatted by his opponent. The river 9s was an action card and not surprisingly the chips went into the middle. With that rivered straight, Championplayer was crowned the champ of the event winning INR 8,62,400 while second place finisher BigL made INR 5,62,100.

That was it for the round-up of the action from Day 3 of the SSS. Keep coming back to GutshotMagazine.com for your dose of the latest poker action.
