Day 4 at the 2018 Asian Games was a historic one for India, as they picked up their fourth gold medal of the series, and second in shooting. Prior to yesterday, India won a gold in shooting due to 16-year old Saurabh Chaudhary and two golds in wrestling from Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat.

Here, India's Rahi Sarnobat became the first Indian female shooter to win a Gold medal at the Asian Games, shooting her way to the top prize in the Women’s 25m Pistol Finals. The 27-year old shooter shot a total of 34 to finish first at the women’s 25m Final, after initially tying with Thailand’s Naphaswan Yangpaiboon.

In the first shootout between the two, they tied again, shooting four out of five, while Sarnobat missed one less than her opponent in the second shootout, which gave her a historic gold, while Yangpaiboon settled for silver. She is now the sixth Indian to win a shooting gold at the Asian Games, after Chaudhary became the fifth just a day prior.

Before this historic moment at the Jakabaring Sport City (JSC) Shooting Range, Sarnobat has had special moments in the past, becoming the first Indian shooter to win gold at the 2013 World Cup, while also winning gold at the Commonwealth Youth Games way back in 2008.

It was also a good day for India in other sports, with Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan reaching the semi-finals of the Tennis Men's Doubles and assuring themselves a medal, while Bopanna also reached the 3rd round of the Mixed Doubles with Ankita Raina. Raina also stormed into the semi-final of the Women's Singles, assuring India of another bronze medal.
