Rajat Sharma takes down Spartan’s Mega Stack
Yesterday saw yet another high-stakes tournament on The Spartan Poker. The Mega Stack tournament, which happens every Tuesday, has a prize pool of INR 12 Lakhs for a buy-in of INR 3,300.
The event began at 7:30 pm on Spartan yesterday and attracted a total of 371 entries (249 players). Top 31 places were paid off, with the minimum cash prize being INR 10,560. After a long haul of over six and a half hours, at 2:02 am today morning, the tournament declared its champion.
The winner to emerge from last night’s Mega Stack was well-known poker player Rajat Sharma aka ‘Garammasala’. He took home INR 2,53,800 as 1st place cash prize, after beating another accomplished player, Rubin Labroo aka ‘kornkid’ in heads-up. Labroo finished 2nd and cashed out INR 1,70,880 after firing two bullets.
The final hand of heads-up began on Level 60 and the were blinds at 37,500/75,000/7,500 (ante) with Sharma having an almost 5:1 chip lead. After both the players posted the ante and the blinds, Labroo initiated a 82,500 bet on the 5c 3s 4s flop, followed by Sharma's raise of 275,000. Labroo went all in and that prompted Sharma to call. The turn of 7c made Labroo hope for a nut flush, having 4c Qc as hole cards, but much to his dismay, his opponent's 8c 6d hit the straight on the turn. The river came to an indifferent 7s, denying Labroo's final chance to hit a club and make the flush and enabling Sharma to win the tournament.
Sharma’s online record looks like a shipping yard with numerous tourneys won in line. He, along with the runners-up, Labroo, are both grinders who are constantly honing their skills online and cashing out huge too. The champion has almost all the weekly Spartan feature tournament titles in his bag in recent times:
- Monday’s Mega Freeze – INR 1,30,725
- Tuesday’s Mega Stack – INR 2,53,800
- Wednesday’s Destiny – INR 5,30,000
- Thursday’s Flash – INR 2,84,127
- Friday’s Elite – INR 4,87,200
- Sunday’s SuperStack – INR 7,24,100
Sharma has been in the game so long that winning titles must feel like a walk in the park for him. Labroo’s record is also studded with plenty of online titles on various sites, with a few live wins too. His latest win was at the Elite, Spartan’s Friday feature tournament. He chopped the prize with his opponent, cashing out with INR 4,14,854.
The first to receive a pay-out in this tournament was Arjanveer Chadha (31st) aka ‘instrumental’. A few known players cashed out following him, like Neel Joshi (26th) aka ‘Worm33’ who fired two bullets, Ashish Ahuja (20th) aka ‘Spewushhhiiiii’, Anirban Das (19th) aka ‘pokernoob’, Rajesh Tallapaneni (16th) aka ‘THALAIVA AR’, Sahil Mahboobani (10th) aka ‘ImHighIshove’ and Rajat Mahajan (8th) aka ‘BloatedBelly’.
