Rubin Labroo finishes 3rd in APT Vietnam Monster Stack
Most of our Indian poker pros are in Las Vegas where the poker summer is nearly coming to an end, with just a handful of tournaments left to be played at the 2019 World Series of Poker (WSOP). However, some of our players also made the shorter journey to Vietnam, where the Asian Poker Tour (APT) has a series currently underway in the Pro Poker Club, Ho Chi Minh.
One of them is Rubin Labroo, a player who all may recognize as 'kornkid' on the virtual felts across most platforms. He participated in Event 1: Monster Stack #1 in Vietnam and the tournament attracted a total playing field of 131 entries. Each one paid the VND 11 million buy-in and all had their eyes on the top prize along with the APT Golden Lion trophy.
On Day 2 yesterday, several bust outs were seen within the first hour which led to the formation of the Final Table of 8. Labroo was decently stacked and was looking good to even take down the title until he had a sick bust-out hand that sent him to the rail in 3rd place, collecting a decent pay-out of VND 142,810,000 (~INR 4.22 Lakh).
Recounting that bad beat, Labroo told Gutshot, "It was some disgusting stuff. I had 550k at 10/20k blinds, Button had 800k. SB had 4 million. Button limps. SB completes. I check. I have 98off and the flop opens 567. SB checks I check. Button bets 35k. SB calls I make it 110k. Button folds, SB jams, I call. He shows 57. Turn is Jack and he rivers 7 to complete a Full House."
However, we know that it's a good start for Labroo in the series and we're hoping he does better in the Main Event and Championship Event that follows. It was Korea's Eunho Kwon who dealt that beat to Labroo and eventually, he went on to take down the title as well.
Final Table Results:
- Eunho Kwon - VND 308,120,000
- Stephen Schumacher - VND 205,430,000
- Rubin Labroo - VND 142,810,000
- Tobias Cornelis - VND 103,150,000
- Nguyen Duc Thanh - VND 77,140,000
- Tan Chong Hwee - VND 59,540,000
- Casper Wong - VND 47,280,000
- Justin Skovholt - VND 38,520,000
Later last night, Labroo hit the virtual felts again on PokerBaazi and 'kornkid' wasn't settling for another 3rd place finish as he ended up beating a strong field of 178 entries in The Summit INR 15 Lakh GTD. He turned his buy-in of INR 8,250 into a pay-day of INR 3,73,050 and he will take some more confidence with him to the Pro Poker Club for the rest of the APT Vietnam series.
