Steve O'Dwyer first winner at 2019 Triton Montenegro
Event #1 - NLH 8-Handed TURBO was the first tournament of the latest Triton Poker Super High Roller (SHR) series. After a successful outing in Jeju a couple of months back, Triton Montenegro 2019 was launched as their second event of the year, having also recently signed US pro Tom Dwan as brand ambassador.
The series is scheduled between 5-17 May 2019 and that first event we spoke about concluded yesterday at the very beautiful Maestral Resort & Casino in Budva, Montenegro. US pro Steve O'Dwyer ended victorious in this event following a heads-up deal but he played marvellously to recover from a very short stacked position.
He described the end of Day 1 of the tournament as a 'nightmare' and entered the Final Table of 7 on Day 2 as the second shortest stack. However, he showed some great skill and composure on Day 2 to recover and win the tournament while also beating his mentor Isaac Haxton in heads-up.
The duo is well aware of each other’s abilities, so it wasn't too long before they decided to strike a deal. Having the larger stack at the time of the deal, O'Dwyer became the champion and he took away a massive pay-day of HKD 3,708,784 (~INR 3.7 crore). But it was just another day at the office for him as he got up and walked to the registration desk to buy in to Event #2 of the series.
- Steve O’Dwyer - HKD 3,708,784 (~$472k)
- Isaac Haxton - HKD 2,901,216
- Linus Loeliger - HKD 1,720,000
- Beh Kok Weng - HKD 1,240,000
- Sam Greenwood - HKD 1,005,000
“It worked out exactly how I hoped it would,” is what he said to the reporters at the venue as he added to his already massive tally of $27 million in live cashes. For all updates from the Triton Montenegro series, keep following GutshotMagazine.com.
