Tamir Segal wins 2018 WSOP Europe COLOSSUS Event
As we all know, the World Series of Poker (WSOP) is one of the most prestigious poker series in the world and recently, they headed away from home for another edition at Europe's largest casino - Kings Casino, Rozvadov. The COLOSSUS is always a popular event in the WSOP and in Europe too, proceedings began with Event #1 €550 COLOSSUS NLHE.
A total of ten gold bracelets were announced at this year's WSOP Europe series and now, we have our first bracelet winner in Israel's Tamir Segal. The event had eight starting flights. Yes, EIGHT. After survivors from Day 1A through Day 1H continued through Day 2, we just needed a few hours to find a winner on Day 3.
With so many starting flights, you can imagine how big the field would've been. A total of 2,992 entries registered to the tournament and the €1 million guarantee was smashed, with a new €1,435,412 prize pool being generated. Eventually, the top 419 players shared this prize pool, taking away a minimum of €399 each, and players finishing in the money during the starting flights itself.
The Israel player bagged the biggest prize of the tournament, taking home €203,820 (~INR 1.73 crore) for finishing first, after beating players from all around the world. Now Segal didn't have much of a Poker CV before this big win in Europe. Prior to this, his largest live cash was just around $2k and had total career earnings of around $11k. Surely, this win will be a big boost to his career as a poker player!
The Indian contingent at The Colossus was led by Rakesh Lalwani who was the only Indian to cash out. Even though he busted his stack in one of the starting flights itself, he finished the tournament in 188th position, taking away a decent prize of €2,227 (~INR 1.89 lakh).
Final table results:
- Tamir Segal - €203,820
- Wojciech Wyrebski - €125,966
- Aksel Ayguen - €92,385
- Dariusz Glinski - €68,331
- Hannes Neurauter - €51,854
- Francesco Delfoco - €38,349
- Flavio Decataldo - €29,104
- Krasimir Yankov - €22,281
