Vaibhav Sharma takes down Spartan Elite
The Elite 6-max INR 18 Lakhs GTD is one of the biggest feature tournaments on Spartan Poker’s list of weekly offerings. Every week, this tournament unfailingly brings top talents and pros to the felt, and lots of high-stakes action-packed hands are played before the winner takes home a healthy first-place prize pool.
This is what happened yesterday when Vaibhav Sharma aka ‘Nikka Zaildar’ took down Spartan Elite title for INR 5,16,000. He bested a field of total 215 entries (including 37 re-entries, 80 re-buys) which chipped in the INR 11k buy-in individually. The prize pool also crossed the guarantee and amounted to INR 21.5 Lakhs.
Sharma emerged victorious after a long and tiresome grind that lasted for over 8 hours (9 pm to 5.02 am). He beat ‘Exhaust’ in heads-up to secure his victory. In the last hand of the game, he had accumulated an overwhelming chip lead and was looking to deal the final samurai slash to his opponent.
The last hand saw Sharma with 2c 9c and went all-in pre-flop. Exhaust called with Td 7d. The board revealed 9s 2s 9d Qd Ks, giving Sharma a full house and enabling him to ship the tournament. The runner-up also took home a decent cash prize of INR 3,50,450. Coming to Sharma’s achievements, he is a regular presence in online felts on multiple leading platforms. Just on Spartan, he has a few wins including December 2017 SSS Devil’s Freeze win and June 2018 Elite win. He is a budding player and this bankroll addition will prove to be immensely beneficial to him in coming months.
We contacted Sharma after his win and he had this to say about it, “Friday is kind of a chill day for me. I ended up registering late on Spartan. I was simultaneously watching a movie and clicked some buttons. The field was decent yesterday and the structure of The Elite allowed me to pick spots and I binked it. Shout-out to Rajat Bhai for railing me in Final Table and yeeeyeee giraf, my coach and homie. Thank you for supporting me endlessly throughout my journey. End boss ‘girafganger7’ #LoveUHomie. Cheers.”
Sharma overcame a tough field and an even tougher FT as it included the likes of Siddarth Singhvi (3rd – INR 2,31,125), Aniket Waghmare (5th – INR 1,53,295) and Goonjan Mall (6th – INR 1,20,185). Other knowns to finish in the top 20 paid places (min-cash INR 28,810) include Siddhanth Kapoor (7th), Vivek Singh (10th), Destiny 8.0 SnG Finale entrants Yowan Patel (13th) and Nitin Arora (19th), and Abhinav Iyer (20th).
