‘vysh4987' wins Main Event; other SSS winners announced
It all boiled down to the final day of action in another edition of the Spartan Super Series (SSS) yesterday. 5 days of intense poker action on the virtual felts of Spartan Poker and finally, we have approached the end. On the final day too, there were 6 tournaments hosted, which of course, included the massive INR 75 Lakh GTD Main Event.
It's so sad that we can't give you details on who the Main Event winner is, as the player 'vysh4987' seems to be a complete mystery. Someone who came, controlled and conquered on Spartan. Apart from the ME, we also had the Sunday SuperStack (won by Induprakash Mishra), Big Daddy and other side events on SSS Day 5. Keep reading for a roundup of the day's play...
SSS Event #22 INR 2 Lakh GTD
A total of 128 players bought into this INR 1,100 re-entry tournament, which was enough to beat the guarantee ever so slightly. From them, the top 18 players were paid out a minimum cash prize of INR 3,280 and the player who emerged victorious is a regular grinder who is playing anonymously under a new screen name 'unruhmlich' which literally means ‘Inglorious' in German. Here, he bested the field to take away a pay-day of INR 52,787, while his heads-up opponent Harsh Bubna aka 'Bholeshankar' won INR 34,952 for his deep run ending in 2nd place.
SSS Event #23 INR 2.5 Lakh GTD
With a buy-in of INR 880, a total field of 164 unique players signed up to the second event of the day, which missed the guarantee by a very slim margin. 24 players would eventually get paid from this field with a minimum cash of INR 2,500 and from them, it was 'djsai' who emerged victorious, taking away INR 57,500 in prize money. In heads-up, he beat Sanat Mehrotra aka 'mehro2511' who had to settle for INR 38,625 for finishing second. The final hand saw Threes full of Kings beating Threes full of Twos.
SSS Event #24 Big Daddy INR 8 Lakh GTD
With a buy-in of INR 1,100, this popular weekly tournament saw an increased guaranteed prize pool for the SSS series, eventually attracting a field of 364 unique players. The distribution of the prize pool was among the top 54 of them, with a minimum cash prize of INR 3,600 and the player who took down the title was none other than Archit Saraogi aka 'ReMorse123' who seems to like this tournament. Apart from other title wins on Spartan, he won the Big Daddy once before in January as well. Yesterday, he beat Harsh Bubna aka 'Bholeshankar' in heads-up to win INR 1,48,000 in prize money. As for Bubna, it was his second runner-up finish of the day.
SSS Event #25 Main Event INR 75 Lakh GTD
This is the one everyone was waiting for. This was the main highlight of the series. The Main Event. With a steep buy-in of INR 11,000 but equally rewarding pay-outs, it was 'vysh4987' who managed to stay composed and keep chipping up right through this grind of 9 hours and 58 minutes, which finally ended at 3:58am this morning. While we are yet to know the identity of this player, we should remind you that this was one mighty effort from vysh4987, beating some of India's best pros and he was handsomely rewarded for the same, winning a hefty prize of INR 22,15,000.
While the field was extremely tough, the FT would've been relatively soft, as there were many lesser known players. One known player who has the lead for a while but eventually ended in 6th place was Bibek Karki aka 'BIBEK329' who was paid out a prize of INR 2,65,800. The player to lose in heads-up eventually was 'Reckless' who wouldn't be too disappointed anyway, winning INR 13,29,000 for finishing second.
SSS Event #27 INR 2.75 Lakh GTD
Rajesh Kumar Shukla aka 'Narammasala' is one name you can always associate with the Spartan Super Series, having plenty of SSS titles and even having won the SSS Leaderboard twice in the past. Here too, he won his second title of the series, playing from the FTRpoker platform. With a buy-in of INR 1,100, Shukla topped the 192-player strong field to take away the top prize of INR 69,080 after beating '4betScarface' in heads-up, who had to settle for INR 46,786 for finishing second.
He also finished 3rd on the Leaderboard. When Gutshot contacted Shukla, he said, "I managed to ship the last event and maintain the 3rd position on the SSS Leaderboard. I couldn't ship any big event this series, but it was total fun playing the entire SSS and defending the leaderboard. I'm looking forward to more upcoming series like SSS. Thanks."
