Wadhawan, Nasa on final table of APT Vietnam Main Event
After hours of intense poker action at the latest Asian Poker Tour (APT) Vietnam series, we reached the end of Day 3 of the APT Vietnam Main Event yesterday at the Pro Poker Club. From among the field that began yesterday, almost all grabbed a paycheck, including all 6 Indians who began the day.
Day 3 of the Main Event resumed with 52 players taking their seats. The evening observed several changes in the lead, eventually boiling down to the final 8 players lining up to kick start the final day. As stated yesterday, a prize pool of VND 8.4 billion was drawn and the top 44 places received a paycheck of min-cash VND 44 million.
The chip leader from Day 2, Sofia Lovgren maintained her stack, knocking out few players in her way and being the first to reach to a million chips. The Swedish poker player eventually rested in the second position with 1,654,000 chips. Amassing the largest stack at the end of Day 3 was Vincent Chauve eliminating India’s Madhav Gupta in 11th place. The chip leader bagged 3,063,000 chips.
With over $790k live earnings, Chauve championed the 2019 WPT Vietnam Main Event in March. Earning his career-best live cash of $623k in the 50th annual WSOP Monster Stack, he has now made a deep run and is all set to grab the top prize of VND 1.8 billion.
Day 3 proved to be topsy-turvy, but the Indian duo, Ankit Wadhawan and Akshay Nasa stayed in contention to make it to the final table of 8 players. Wadhawan knocked out Soo Jo Kim, aiming for his first live cash outside the home country and now in 4th position with 1,302,000 chips. In recent times, Wadhawan (picture below) has been doing brilliantly in the live circuits and Gutshot Magazine got in touch with him to know about his new-found consistency. Wadhawan is closely followed by Nasa, who is a familiar face in APT tournaments by running deep in the previous two APT Philippines High Roller events and finishing in the runner-up position once. It was the Delhiite delivering the bubble yesterday by eliminating Nguyen Thi Bao An and bagging 1,284,000 chips by the end of the night.
