Will Kassouf loses sponsorship over stealing chips
He is best known as that abrasive guy from the 2016 World Series of Poker. William Kassouf didn't make too many friends at that WSOP but certainly made it memorable for television viewers with the way he went about trash talking at the table. To his credit, the 36-year-old from the UK was regarded as a good player having had respectable runs in both the WSOP and WPT.
Five cashes at the WSOP and one WPT event brought his live poker winnings to over $1.4 million. His TV time also led him to score a sponsorship with one of the UK's most famous casino brands, Grosvenor. But it seems like this once-respected poker player has now lost his way - and his sponsorship - after he was busted for palming chips at the Grosvenor Leeds casino.
Kassouf was caught in the act, palming chips worth £100 at a roulette wheel. He was outed on Twitter by US pro Shaun Deeb, who said, "Just got a very interesting message about @WilliamKassouf getting caught palming 100$ [sic] chips at roulette table and getting banned from all properties and dropped by his sponsorship shocked to hear it but now we know where his [buy-ins] were coming from #goodriddence."
Some decided to call out Deeb for making "slanderous" accusations" without proof, but then Kassouf acknowledged his misstep and the sponsorship loss. He explained, “Last weekend, during the course of a drunken night playing roulette with friends, I made an error of judgment which I greatly regret; something I accept full responsibility for. I have apologised and will apologise again to all my friends who were with me that night for my foolish behavior.”
He added that he and Grosvenor Poker had "mutually agreed to part ways." The full content of his message is given below:
