World Poker Tour to make Australia debut
World Poker Tour (WPT) happens to be one of the most prestigious brands in live poker across the globe. With tournament series hosted all over the world, winning a WPT tournament is one of the biggest achievements for a poker player. The company has now gone on to introduce another segment of their continuous global expansion plans.
Come October 2019, WPT will have completed their first ever tournament series in Australia, a country that has always been preferred by travelling poker players. The company has announced this first stop down under between 27 September - 7 October 2019, with tournament buy-ins ranging between AUD 330 and AUD 5,000.
A total of 10 tournaments have been scheduled for this series including the AUD 2,500 Main Event which begins on 4 October. The series is set to take place at The Star Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, a casino resort which recently underwent a massive AUD 850 million upgrade.
“The World Poker Tour is proud to add WPT Australia to our roster of wonderful global events and The Star Gold Coast as a casino partner. As a native Australian, I am thrilled to have a WPT event take place in my home country and even more pleased to have it hosted at such a wonderful property,” said WPT's VP of Global Tour Management, Angelica Hael.
Commenting on the same, Geoff Hogg, The Star Gold Coast MD, said, “The Star Gold Coast and the nation of Australia welcome the World Poker Tour to our home for what is a monumental partnership. Star Gold Coast has transformed over the past three years and continues to evolve, with levels of investment that position us as a world-class global tourism destination. Australia is one of the top nations for poker in the world and this event further establishes The Star Gold Coast as a leader in the industry.”
