WPT announces inaugural stop in Vietnam
Poker in Asia has been on a rapid rise in the last few years and while Macau and Manila have been the prime locations to play the sport of poker, Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam is also becoming a popular poker location now. This year, we've already had quite a few stops in Vietnam, including two stops by the Asian Poker Tour (APT) and one by the Asia Poker League (APL) as well.
With the increase in popularity of poker in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, another top poker brand has decided to launch a tournament series here. This time, it isn’t an Asia brand but the World Poker Tour (WPT), which is easily one of the biggest poker brands around the world.
In a latest development, the WPT announced the inaugural WPT Vietnam tournament series, which will be held at the Pro Poker Club in Ho Chi Minh between 26 September and 4 October 2018. The series will follow the recent additions to the Asia-Pacific itinerary - WPT Japan and WPT Korea.
This year could be a big boost for Asian poker players, with the WPT increasing its range in the continent. Danny McDonagh, WPT Live Events Specialist, commented on the announcement, saying, “Japan, Korea, and Vietnam are three incredible destinations for traveling players, filled with vibrant sights, rich tradition, exotic culinary delights, and a tremendous appetite for poker."
WPT Vietnam Main Event will run between 28 September and 2 October, which will feature a massive guarantee of VND8 billion (US$345,000). This 20-day period will feature three stops in Asia and will be a good prelude to the second edition of WPT India, which will be played between 13 and 17 November.
