Poker in Asia has been on a rapid rise in the last couple of years, with a number of leagues and tournaments being organized, with the guarantees and prize pools always increasing. Gambling hubs like Macau and Manila have been the major spots of interest while the game has also spread to countries like Vietnam, Japan, Korea, India and others.
Once again, PokerStars and the Asia-Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) have come together for another APPT tournament, this time in Manila. APPT is a major Asian poker brand that has tied up with global leader PokerStars to bring to us the 2018 APPT Manila at the PokerStars LIVE Manila poker room.
The tournament series will take place between 4-12 August 2018 and there will be more than PHP 37 million (~INR 4.7 crore) in guaranteed prizes over these 9 days, including four of the coveted PokerStars Platinum Passes worth $120,000 being given away. Manila has become a regular poker destination for top Indian pros and with the 2018 WSOP over by then, expect a lot of Indian participation here.
22 Official Asia Player of the Year events are scheduled to be played during this series and the highlight of the series will be the Main Event, which promises a prize pool of PHP 20 million. The Platinum Passes will be awarded to the winners of the APPT Main Event, APPT National, Megastack, and Saturday SuperStack events.
Last year, the APPT Manila set a record of 594 entrants and a PHP 28.8 million prize pool so this series is expected to do well too. “We set a record earlier this year with the Manila Megastack 9 becoming the largest and richest Manila Megastack in PokerStars LIVE Manila history and we have every expectation that APPT Manila will follow suit,” said Department Head of Live of Events, Asia Pacific, Mark Blake.
