3 Indians progress from Day 1B of WPT500 Aria

Two years back, Adda52 Team Pro Nikita Luther had just made the move to poker pro and headed out to Las Vegas where she participated in the WPT500 Aria Main Event. After a few days of intense poker, she landed herself on the Final Table of that tournament. Eventually, she bagged a handsome score of $65,000 for finishing 5th.

Gutshot recently launched a print magazine for the June-August 2019 quarter and Luther was featured in the cover story, where she told us how that tournament and FT finish was one of the highs of her career so far. She said she’ll be heading back there again this year and indeed she did.

She registered among 239 entries on Day 1B of the Zynga Poker WPT500 Las Vegas, held at Aria Resort and Casino for the 6th successive year. By the end of a tiring day, Luther managed to get a bag once again, among just 12 survivors from the second starting flight. In fact, she progresses with a pretty strong stack of 713,000 chips! Luther updated her progress on Twitter:

Only 5% of the field progresses to Day 2 and along with Luther, two other Indians have managed to catch a bag in Sanjay Taneja (171,000) and Meherzad Munsaf (151,000). The pay-outs already began during the day, with the top 30 places being paid a minimum of $900. Zachary Mullennix was the last player to hit the rail, bagging $1,200 for finishing 13th.

The chip lead at the end of the day goes to Marco Bognanni, and Luther isn’t far behind his stack of 842,000. In fact, he catapulted to the lead in one of the final hands of the day when his pocket Aces faced off against AK and 88 in a 3-way all-in pot. The survivors will resume on Day 2 on Wednesday, after 2 more starting flights are played out.

Day 1B top 10 chip counts:

  1. Marco Bognanni – 842,000
  2. Trey Morris – 820,000
  3. Mo Nuwwarah – 718,000
  4. Nikita Luther – 713,000
  5. Hong Zhang – 488,000
  6. Yo Hwan Lim – 339,000
  7. Colton Blomberg – 181,000
  8. Sanjay Taneja – 171,000
  9. Meherzad Munsaf – 151,000
  10. Rich Dixon – 145,000

In the first starting flight, 205 entries registered and Dhaval Mudgal was among the 11 players to progress. We’re expecting more Indians in the field in the next couple of days and you can get all updates on this tournament here on GutshotMagazine.com.
