3rd SSS title for Anirban Das!

Winning seems to be a habit with some people and none of them personifies that more than Anirban Das who took down yet another title at the Spartan Super Series (SSS). Das, who plays as ‘pokernoob’ on Spartan, is on quite a roll in this SSS having won titles on Day 2 and Day 4 respectively. “This was my 3rd win in this SSS so it’s been a great series so far!”, said the 33-year old Bangalore-based player when Gutshot caught up with him after his win.

This first tournament on the penultimate day of the series at The Spartan Poker was a ‘Lite’ version of Spartan’s popular DareDevil tourney which is scheduled to take place later that same day. This Lite version features a lower guarantee amount of INR 3.5 Lakhs and a lower buy-in too of INR 1,500. As is the case with the DareDevil, all busted players are allowed to rebuy at a 50% discounted price on that buy-in. 125 entries participated to take prizepool of a shade under 3.6 Lakhs (INR 3,59,699) and that meant that the top 15 players would end up cashing in this tourney. Minimum cash out amount would be INR 6,834.

After pokernoob knocked out ‘Mr.Meursau1T’ with a pair of Eights against his opponent’s Fives, it was time for heads-up battle between pokernoob and ‘johnny89’. The latter definitely was the underdog from a stack perspective holding about 900k as compared to pokernoob’s 2.1 million. That was no deterrent for the player as he waged a long battle for the chip lead. Things were looking brighter when he won a pot of almost 1.3 million chips with a full house against pokernoob’s two pair. The joy and lead was short-lived however as just 2 hands later pokernoob won back most of it to reestablish his earlier lead. From there on it was cruise control for pokernoob as he kept chipping away at his opponent’s stack to build a 5:1 lead by the time the last hand rolled around. pokernoob taking advantage of his big stack moved all in with 5s 8s. It was do or die for johnny89 who decided to take a chance with the computer hand Qd 7c for his tournament life. Unfortunately for him, the double-up wasn’t to be as the board of 9h 8d 4d Ad 3c give a pair of Eights and the title to Anirban ‘pokernoob’ Das. For the win, nice six-figure payday for the champion who got INR 1,00,715 and johnny89 for the runner-up took home INR 65,645“Well played to ‘narammasala’, Mr.Meursau1T and johnny89 on the FT. It was a pretty long grind so happy to take it down,” said Das after the win. No surprise that Das presently occupies the second spot on the SSS Leaderboard just behind Narammasala. Remember the winner of the 10 Lakh leaderboard takes away INR 4 Lakhs for topping it so a lot of anticipation in these final two days of the series.
