Alleged poker cheat Mike Postle acknowledges $10 million Lawsuit

The story began by a tweet and since then countless hours of footage have been analyzed with every movement of Mike Postle, a name previously known only to a small group of regulars paying attention to the cash game at Stones Gambling Hall in Citrus Heights, California. The tale which spread like a wildfire in social media and beyond, the famous Mike Postle cheating scandal dominated the poker conversation.

When you look back in 2019, the first thing that clicks is the saga of Postle. California’s poker pro found himself at the center of one the biggest poker stories of the year after he was accused of cheating in the live-streamed cash game. Accusations came to light when commentator for Stones Poker Live, Veronica Brill took to Twitter voicing her concerns. And that’s when Joey Ingram, the popular podcaster began pouring hours into Postle’s hand histories. And it didn’t take any longer before his cheating allegations turned into a court case. Maurice VerStandig, a poker-playing lawyer, representing 25 plaintiffs, filed a lawsuit in the US District Court in the Eastern District of California on October 8, 2019. The plaintiffs demanded a trial by jury and a minimum of $10 million in damages and financial losses.

After weeks of speculations, according to a report, from 19 December till 2 January 2020, efforts were made to serve a legal notice to Postle, giving notice of the civil lawsuit against him and trying to make constant contact on five separate days finally remained unsuccessful. And that’s when VerStandig said he surveilled the place and spotted Postle inside, the lawyer left summons in the door and mailed a copy to him. On 24 Jan, VerStandig informed the court that Postle signed to acknowledge his receipt of the documents on 8 Jan.

Postle is accused of five charges in the civil case, including violation of RICO statutes, fraud, and unjust enrichment. Also facing court action are Stones Gambling Hall owners, Kings Casino as well as Justin Kuraitis, the Stones poker room manager. The original deadline to Postle’s response to the complaint was 29 Jan and the new response deadline is now set for 26 Feb. Postle signed the document earlier this week as a ‘pro se’ defendant which means that he is currently representing himself.
