The Elite happens to be one of those online poker tournaments that gives you all the bragging rights. This one’s for poker’s elite group of players. Played every Friday night on The Spartan Poker, this tournament has a high buy-in but equally high prizes are on offer, with everyone vying for the top spot.
Last night, The Elite INR 18 lakh GTD was contested once again on Spartan and like always, there was an extremely tough field witnessed, along with a good enough participation to take the prize pool all the way up to INR 25.5 lakh. From this, the top 20 received cash prizes of INR 34,170 each.
Once again, it was Anirban Das aka ‘pokernoob’ who emerged victorious in a major Spartan tournament, winning The Elite from among a field of 153 players. It was a deep tournament that ended early on Saturday morning, with Das adding to his poker achievements and increasing his poker bankroll by a whopping INR 5,50,851.
We’re getting used to contacting Das whenever he ships such major titles, and yesterday was another example of the same. Commenting on the victory, he said, “It was great to ship this tournament because I started FT last in chips with less than 15 BBs. However, I played a patient game and ran pretty pure. Well played to all the other winners too.”
Shipping this tournament always gives bragging rights to the eventual winner and last night, Anirban Das would’ve been over the moon with the win. In heads-up, Das was up against ‘omgwonderwoman’ who also has a few victories on Spartan. Das ensured he created a lead of more than 2:1 in heads-up before the final hand took place.
This hand was played in Level #31 of the tournament with the blinds at 14,000/28,000-3,500. The players raised and called re-flop, while checking on the flop and turn. With the board having rolled out 5s Jd 2d 5h 4s, omgwonderwoman betted with pocket Nines, Das folded and the players decided to agree on a heads-up deal with Das way ahead.
GutshotMagazine.com follows such major tournaments across India and the rest of the world, so stay tuned for more updates.
