Ankit Kapoor holds big lead on DPT Main Event FT

After a total of 108 players who progressed to Day 2 of the 2019 Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) underway at Deltin Royale, Goa, it is now time for us to report the action-packed Day 2 witnessed at the venue yesterday. The Main Event in all attracted 286 entries (91 on Day 1A, 114 on Day 1B and 81 on Day 1C).

These players all played some phenomenal poker for the field to whittle down to the Final 9 who’ll be looking for the kill-shot of INR 22.5 Lakhs which is kept aside as 1st place cash prize outof the top 31 places paid out.

The chip leader Ankit Kapoor is with a huge bag of 2,39,500 chips. Coming to his career, he has recorded some cashes in the past, all from live events in Goa. His biggest one was also his latest live earnings, at the 2018 WPTDS India High Roller, finishing 5th for INR 6,58,00. He has some great odds with him to win this, and if he does, he will instantly multiply his total earnings by over two-fold.

From the 3 chip leaders on all starting flights, India’s first and only female WSOP bracelet winner Nikita Luther made a deep run and finished at 26th for INR 77k. She already won the first tournament of the series, INR 15k Deep Dive, for INR 6.8 Lakhs.  Day 1A’s chip leader M Khan and Day 1C’s Sriram Maniam busted during Day 2.

Play resumed at 4 pm yesterday, and some eliminations later, Hardik Shah burst the bubble at 32nd place playing against Dhaval Mudgal. Mudgal shoved all-in for 60k and the short-stacked Shah called with As Jh. The board ran 8s 2s Kd 4h 10c and Mudgal’s pocket Threes were enough to put Shah to the rail.

A few notable eliminations happened along the way to the Final 9, such as Kartik Ved (30th – INR 75k), 2019 DPT Deep Dive runner-up Parikshit Dhall (29th – INR 75k), Minissha Lamba (21st – INR 87k), Gaurav Kalra (20th – INR 87k), Sajal Gupta (14th – INR 1.2 Lakhs), Alok Birewar (13th – INR 1.2 Lakhs), Siddharth Mundada (11th – INR 1.5 Lakhs) and 2019 DPT High Roller winner Abhishek Goindi (10th – INR 1.8 Lakhs).

The Final Table of 9 has some top pros in contention. Meherzad Munsaf has bagged 675,000 chips at the end of Day 2. Mayank Jaggi is with 840,000 chips. Dhaval Mudgal has also made a deep run in the ME and is with 555,000 chips entering the final day today. Both Munsaf and Mudgal were at the 2019 APT Kickoff in Vietnam and made good runs there too. It will be interesting to watch them competing, both fresh out of a significant international event like APT.
